Take the eccentricity of a Harajuku Girl, mix it it with the sophistication of a Parisian tea party couturier, and add a splash of fantasy.. and bingo! There you have it, [Chanel]. Once again Karl Lagerfeld has presented us with a collection so dreamy it hurts (per usual). Though the doll-like fashion show was stimulating, it wasn’t my favorite.

I did especially love the black and white dresses the most, as well as all the shades of pastel. It was like someone sprinkled magic dust on a basket of potpourri, and it came to life. There was a slight disconnect within the transition of some of the pieces (more so the random pieces of menswear). And I definitely did not appreciate the diamond checker board ensemble.. Buuuut, I did manage to select garments that really made an impression. I’m obsessed with floral, so anything with flowers oozing off of it (i.e. the powder blue sweater combined with black mesh overlay and flower buds) gets an A+ with me!

◦◙ HE’S A LADY

Prior to my move to NYC, I began experimenting with wigs. Never in a million years did I ever think I’d wear wigs in addition to makeup. As sad as it sounds, I actually became the individual that I swore I didn’t want to become- I’ve never been happier either! Living in a city where art and beauty is appreciated, why not get glammed up? For me, beauty is essential and necessary. Granted, I don’t wear wigs everyday, but whenever I feel the need to be pretty or frolic around with hair that I purchased as opposed to grew, I sure as hell do it!

Feeling beautiful is a must for everyone.. I just go about it a little differently than some people. I mainly like being able to take on different characters. As long as I have a steady hand and an hour or two- I can be anyone. Living in the hustle and bustle of the city can be tough sometimes, so to keep life fresh I dress up as someone else. I begin the process as Rolly, and then I end the process ass.. um, Rolly. Just because I have red lips, rosey cheeks, and highlighted eyes, doesn’t mean I’m not still myself. And don’t let the glammed goddess face fool you either- I DON’T WANT to be a woman. I just like to look like one from time to time.

◦◙ Milk Face

It’s May.. which I thought was identifiable as “Spring”. Apparently here in NYC, it’s not. This was by far one of the coldest nights of the month- and the wig blowing winds that I endured nearly had me dead. Nonetheless, the day was lovely. I met beloved Val in Williamsburg, Brooklyn for an afternoon delight on the pier. God- It’s so nice to see where I live from the outside. Manhattan is beautiful from across the water. I definitely appreciated it more, and simultaneously thought “Maybe I need to move to Brooklyn”. 

It was cute to see everyone out and about despite the shady weather. We ventured into the cutest Japanese apparel store where they had an array of the most unbelievable Vivienne Westwood scarves and tights as well as YSL. Ugh, how I wish my bestie Melody was there for that. Valdet and I finished up the night by eating at one of my favorite restaurants “Meatball Shop”. Good times- I just can’t wait until it’s warmer.

☺ Karla Spetic A/W 2012

Okay ladies and gentlemen.. This is design done right! How I even came across designer Karla Spetic, is beyond me, but thankfully I did! Currently my new favorite designer (and from Australia at that), Spetic’s collections are always of the most feminine cuts and remarkable tailoring. Her newest collection, which happens to be my favorite thus far, is pop art at it’s finest. The combination of masculine silhouettes with a womanly execution is impeccable.

With obvious inspirations by pop artist Roy Lichtenstein, this collection exemplifies what it is to mix the new with the old. Each comic book piece is an absolute joy to look at, and of course since I’m an art major, I immediately connected with this collection. This just goes to show that Australian fashion is not to be taken lightly and is a force to be reckoned with. A force by the name of Karla.

◦◙ Pastel Party

I love an impromptu photo shoot. Of course once I got into character- Kevin, my roommate, got as giddy as a Japanese school girl out of one of those 2001 Sailor Moon episodes. He styled me, just as he always does when he’s around. My dear friend and modern day fashion God, Stephanie Rodriguez, played the role of fashion photographer. She began the shoot, and my other amazing friend, Vinnet X, who also is one of the most visual and revolutionary people I know, ended the shoot outside. 

Nothing like a nice soup bowl of creative minds swirling around together. I’m so ready for Spring and all it’s pastel glory. Florals, Easter, sheer, blush, galore. My craving for such a season comes from my previous living in Miami prior to New York. Hated the sticky, humid weather.. But loved the strappy sandals, white pleated shorts, and paper thin blouses. Winter here in NYC was M-I-L-D!.. So I have a feeling Spring will arrive sooner than expected.

◦◙ A Flower Is Born

Hello world. It’s been a hell of a long time since my last post (i.e. this past Summer). Between working, and interning over at StyleCaster, I literally don’t have “the luxury of time”. NYC takes alot out of a girl.. err, boy. Whatever. My birthday was at the beginning of the month, and what better way to kill it than make reservations at the Thompson hotel here in Soho. 

The attendees were all dressed to kill as was I, the flower maiden. There will be a lot to come this year of 2012… And hopefully long and overdue postings aren’t on that list! Happy late New Year everyone! I’m back in full effect!!
